Remember the N-Gage? If you were too busy paying attention to the Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP, then probably not. Originally released by Nokia as a mobile phone/game system back in 2003, the N-Gage has now evolved into a mobile gaming platform (i.e. application) for smartphones.
It may not have the DS or PSP’s huge selection, but it sure scratches the gaming itch when handheld game systems aren’t around.
And scratch, the N-Gage did. I just tried out Reset Generation, a quirky turn-based strategy game recently released by Nokia Games Publishing. It would be easy to underestimate it at first glance, especially when compared to titles like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII or Mario Kart DS. Little that I know that there’s a monster lurking beneath Reset Generation’s cartoony surface that sucked me in.
It sucked me in for days at a time.
The objective of Reset Generation is simple; rescue the princess. Players begin by choosing a hero from a selection of video game archetypes each with its own abilities. Players then either conquer the game in single-player story missions or compete with up to four players online.
Players can also get into multiplayer, either through mobile or PC. On PC, the game is free and is available as an embeddable web widget. On the mobile, it can be downloaded for N-Gage-compatible phones.
The mobile version sold through Nokia channels will cost around 10-12 EUR depending on local taxes and can be bought with a credit card or charged to an operator subscription where operator billing is available.
Reset Generation was developed by Finland-based RedLynx of Pathway to Glory fame. The soundtrack was composed and performed by Los Angeles-based chiptune band 8 Bit Weapon using old video game machines as instruments.
Try playing the embedded game. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you want to get your life back, the mobile version is the way to go.

[...] Gold Medal review from N-Gation, who writes: “We waited and we waited, we was then teased, and teased to a point were we grew angry, and rebellious and now it’s here - does this game live up to the hype? Worth all that excitement? I’ll give you a hint: Epic. Read On.” Mike Got Game [...]
