Remake for Chronicles of Riddick is “just about done”

There’s good news and bad news on the first-person shooter front. If you’ve forgotten about The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, then it’s time you start remembering. According to a succinct post by the site admin over at Starbreeze Studios’ forums, the movie-to-game adaptation’s current-gen version (renamed The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena) is “just about done.”
Now for the bad news. According to the admin, which is likely a Starbreeze Studios employee, a follow-up to The Darkness “isn’t impossible but quite unlikely.” Interestingly, Project RedLime is in production. Project RedLime is a reinvention of a (as of yet unnamed) classic EA franchise.
Why should you care? Because Escape From Butcher Bay is fricking awesome, and that Starbreeze makes great FPSes.
Dark Athena, on the other hand, includes the full version of Escape From Butcher Bay. The upcoming Riddick shooter would also have additional levels that extend the original game’s story, plus online multiplayer. Dark Athena is set to come out for the Xbox 360 and PS3—that means it’s in HD.
Just one concern in all this hoopla: Starbreeze isn’t exactly known for its multiplayer. While The Darkness single player was terrific, multiplayer was forgettable. The game is a virtual ghost town over at PSN, thanks to bad lag in multiplayer. Let’s hope that in addition to the new textures that Starbreeze is putting in Dark Athena, a working and balanced multiplayer would be included.
