Ghostbusters: The Video Game Walkthrough

Part 2

So you’ve learned the basics of ghost busting and it makes you feel good. So you think you can take on anything that Ghostbusters: The Video Game can hurl at you? Let’s see how your skills measure up, slick. Time to take what you know and visit a real haunting.

1 Ghostbusters: The Video Game Walkthrough

Your first official mission as experimental weapons technician of the Ghostbusters is to catch Slimer, who’s back to his old haunt: the Sedgewick Hotel. Just follow your teammates—they’ll lead the way. Egon said he’ll be snooping around so stick with Peter and Ray as they make their way up the hotel. Take the elevator with them.

Follow Peter and Ray as they banter about proton pack use, a restraining order, and lawsuits. Just follow the duo through the hotel halls and pay attention to floating objects that would be hurled at your team when you reach a stairway. Blast the flying objects if you can and don’t think about the damage.

A cutscene would then be shown with Slimer eating hotel food. That’s when you know it’s show time. Once control is returned to you, blast Slimer and he will escape through the wall. Ray will then tell you to use your PKE meter to track Slimer down.

Using the PKE meter
Your para-goggles are linked directly to your PKE meter, so whenever you bring up the gadget, you automatically wear the goggles. When the center bar of the PKE meter peaks, it signifies that you’re headed in the right direction. When it’s flat, you’re following a cold trail.

Don’t forget to line the target up in the small circle for the best scan. In this situation, point the cursor at the slime on the wall then press R2.

Remember the PKE meter’s color codes:
Red means a hidden ghost
Green means the ghost is in the open
Blue means a collectible artifact

The best part about scanning: you get paid extra for everything you scan.

If you scan a collectible artifact, you get to keep it. If you scan a ghost, it is added in the Tobin’s Spirit Guide, which works like a bestiary. Tobin’s Spirit Guide provides valuable information like a ghost’s attack type, method for disposal, back story, and (more importantly) weakness.

Going back to the hunt for Slimer—you can use the PKE meter to scan the ectoplasm on the wall that your little green friend left behind. Ray would then open the double doors so follow him through the hall, and then turn right. As you turn right, the PKE meter would flash red (i.e. hidden ghost). Follow the trail and you’ll see an urn placed on a table to your right. Scan the urn and Slimer would storm out. Try scanning Slimer several times before he escapes.

Yes, he will escape again, no matter what you do.

4 Ghostbusters: The Video Game Walkthrough

Just follow Ray as you run after Slimer. As you trudge forward, the PKE meter would turn blue—this means there’s a collectible artifact nearby. Follow Ray down the right hall and you’ll see some sort of pantry with a couple of vending machines (one says Doritos) on the left. The cursed artifact is a room service tray on the floor. Scan this then carry on.

Peter would then contact Ray for help. Yes, Venkman has been slimed. Ray would kick down the doors nearby so just sprint after him. Ray would turn right in one of the hallways, then a quick left to find a prone Peter. Approach Venkman and press X to revive him.

Tip: Reviving other Ghostbusters
Remember how it’s done, rookie. Reviving teammates are important to your survival. At least one Ghostbuster must remain standing in case you get taken down by a ghost, so that they can revive you too.

Once Peter is up, Egon would radio in for help. You need to go back the hotel lobby. Ray would tell you to call the elevator, so just walk up to the highlighted panel and press X. Once the elevator arrives, get in.

Back in the lobby, you’ll see Slimer again but he’s not alone—a couple of other ghosts join him. Start shooting, but pay attention to the furniture that they throw. When ghosts throw stuff at you, make sure you move laterally to avoid taking damage. Remember what you read in the first walkthrough: weaken the ghost first, wrangle it, slam it a few times, then trap it.

Tip: Efficient ghost busting
Try to focus your efforts on one ghost at a time so that you may reduce their numbers more quickly.

The ghosts will then split up. Egon will tell you to go with Peter and track Slimer down. There’s a chance that you won’t see Peter immediately. In case you don’t, just follow this tip:

Tip: When separated from other Ghostbusters
The areas in Ghostbusters: The Video Game can be pretty huge, so you’ll need to keep track of where the other Ghostbusters are. Just click the right analog stick to display icons on the upper right corner of the screen. The icons would point where your teammates are.

Before you go after Peter, find the antique service bell. It’s in the room opposite of the elevators you came out of. The bell is placed on a desk. Scan this artifact then follow Venkman. Peter would go towards a ballroom being guarded by the hotel manager. Unfortunately, you can’t go in—some bar mitzvah is about to start. You’re going to have to find another way in. Scan the ectoplasm above the ballroom’s door for a few extra bucks before leaving.

Again, follow Peter as he makes his way through the hotel. You may want to pull out the PKE meter for scanning some interesting stuff as you walk through the kitchen. Be aware of your surroundings—you might take damage as a huge shelf falls in the second kitchen room, so stay out of its way. In the same room, some black slime can be seen on the walls. Scan these.

As you pass beside a stove, it would explode and cause a huge cabinet to block the way. Not to worry, the door beside the black slime would open, so go that way instead.

7 Ghostbusters: The Video Game Walkthrough

The next room has a couple of obstacles: one is a ghost hiding in the room beyond, visible through a wide window. The other problem is a huge metal cabinet blocking the way. You may zap the ghost if you wish, but good luck catching it. The more important part is paying attention to Peter’s lesson. Venkman would teach you how to move big, heavy objects.

Tip: Moving heavy objects
Use your capture stream to move obstacles out of your way. While zapping the obstacle with your blast stream, press L1 to engage the capture stream.

With the junk out of the way, walk into the hallway and go left. Follow Venkman and go through the kitchen. There won’t be any other encounters until you reach the ballroom.

8 Ghostbusters: The Video Game Walkthrough

When you reach the ballroom, Slimer would come out and eat more hotel food. It’s time you catch Slimer. Don’t worry; he won’t get away this time. Slimer would occasionally hide in furniture within the ballroom, but he won’t leave the place. When you find Slimer’s hiding spot, blast it with your neutrona wand to convince him to go out. If you can’t find Slimer, he’ll eventually come out anyways. When Slimer gets tired, slam him, and then trap him for good.

After Slimer’s capture, follow Peter back into the lobby where Ray and Egon are waiting. The lobby is this level’s final battleground against the bellhop ghosts that accompanied Slimer earlier. Remember: Capture the bellhop ghosts one by one to that there are fewer problems to worry about.

Stay tuned for more walkthroughs for Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Up next, the Ghostbusters are against something fishy, but beware! You might have to take on a ghost by yourself.
