Scribblenauts’ gameplay really is flawed

scribblenauts logo Scribblenauts gameplay really is flawed

A couple of months ago, I made some unflattering observations about Scribblenauts‘ gameplay. My remarks were based on several Scribblenauts videos that were circulating during that time. Considering the buzz surrounding the game, quite a number of people weren’t very happy with what I said.

In fact, I had to delete several of the comments because they were oozing with vitriol and quite rude. No surprise there—this is the internet (see the Internet F**kwad Theory).

A website called Nintendo RAW also disagreed and revealed that a NeoGAF member/5th Cell staffer named Jackson (5th Cell is Scribblenauts’ developer) made a few comments about my observations:

Hey maybe if that guy actually played the game before he wrote a news article on the gameplay he’d know that Jetpack and Magic carpet DO fly, they just have a cool down timer between uses (individual timer of course) so people think creatively to reach small high places.

To make the long story short, I got a lot of flak for saying that there’s something wrong with Scribblenauts, which was actually proven true by the many reviews that have been published since the game’s release. In fact, I’ve also said the same thing in my Scribblenauts review: there are several significant problems with Scribblenauts.

This of course doesn’t change the fact that Scribblenauts is still a great game and is worthy of your hard-earned cash. The turn of events, however, show that I was right all along so let me just say this to all the people who made rude comments (which I promptly deleted), to Nintendo RAW, and to Jackson, who’s said to be from 5th Cell:

I told you so. ;)

I agree completely. The game is incredibly frustrating because of the horrible controls. It really is no suprise because every 5th cell game have the same problems. Locks quest and Drawn to Life simply do not work.

Lol, good job! I always like to see people who flame others get proven wrong. Kudos to anyone who was polite in their disagreement, though.

Case in point for Mike’s statement.

Anyways, it is nice to see those who are quick to backlash and flame proven wrong.

Don’t understand all the hate for Mike’s statements. Edge UK - for me the best games magazine - also said in their hands-on that the flawed controls could ruin a wonderful game. I doubt they got flamed for it.
