Top Five Tough Spots in Ghostbusters: The Video Game and How to Get Through Them

No matter how you look at it, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is hard. One of the many complaints all over the internet is Ghostbusters‘ severe difficulty spikes, which could push you to pull your hair or hurl your controller in frustration. Fret not, we list down the top four difficulty spikes in Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and we’ll show you how to get through each.

Obviously, you should beware—there are spoilers here.

scenario 1 Top Five Tough Spots in Ghostbusters: The Video Game and How to Get Through Them
Scenario 1
Ray and the Rookie fight Stay Puft’s marshmallow minions inside a Times Square building. While exploring one of the rooms, the minions bust out of the vents and attack, surrounding the two Ghostbusters. This situation can be extremely frustrating because the minions keep coming and there are only two of you.

How To Get Through Scenario 1
Stay close to Ray and keep reviving him whenever he falls so that he would revive you in case you do get taken down. Use Boson Darts, —they’re quite effective against the minions, and could take several at one well-placed blast.

Just make sure you’ve upgraded your Boson Darts when you reach this point. Get the Boson Dart Supercharger upgrade, which allows three darts to be fired before the pack overheats. Fire off two darts against the marshmallow minions then vent. Do this over and over. Remember: two darts then vent. Rinse and repeat. Don’t forget to dodge, of course.

scenario 2 Top Five Tough Spots in Ghostbusters: The Video Game and How to Get Through Them
Scenario 2
Spirits possess several party goers at the Gozer exhibit. The Ghostbusters may have arrived to save the day, but it’s not so simple—the Ghostbusters hose the possessed with slime to free the victim, but the exorcised spirit keep returning to their hosts after a brief period. What’s worse, the ghosts can possess your companions.

How To Get Through Scenario 2
As always, make sure you keep reviving fallen Ghostbusters. If a Ghostbuster is possessed, hose him immediately to free him. To be more efficient, hose guests that are already being slimed by your fellow Ghostbusters so that they get taken down more easily. When a guest is freed, run after the spirit immediately and shoot it with Boson Darts (don’t forget to vent).

However, there’s a risk when you run after a spirit by yourself in the next room—if you get too far from the others, other exorcised spirits nearby would gang up on you and take you down while you’re wrangling. Try to slam the wrangled spirit towards your companions so you have backup. The Slam Dunk Trap would be useful here because it would reduce your trapping time, as long as you’re able to do it of course.

Run back to the others after trapping a ghost, then hose down another guest. Rinse and repeat.

scenario 3 Top Five Tough Spots in Ghostbusters: The Video Game and How to Get Through Them
Scenario 3
The Rookie just opened the catacombs gate and drained the black slime when two Black Slime Monsters appear. While the Black Slime Monsters appear one after the other, this encounter is difficult because of many Venom Crawlers running around shooting at you.

How To Get Through Scenario 3
Hose the Black Slime Monster with slime and maintain a good amount of distance between the two of you—as far as your slime’s range allows. Shoot Venom Crawlers that get in your way with slime, but prioritize creating space between you and the Black Slime Monster. Ignore the Black Slime Portals. Anyway, there are only two Black Slime Monsters to worry about. After dispatching the Black Slime Monsters, all the other enemies (including the portals) would disappear.

scenario 4 grave monster Top Five Tough Spots in Ghostbusters: The Video Game and How to Get Through Them
Scenario 4
The Rookie and Ray are at Central Park, which turned into a huge cemetery. One particularly tough during this area includes one huge Grave Monster accompanied by several Cultists. During one scripted sequence, the Grave Monster breaks through solid wall and attacks you and Ray. Naturally, you back off and blast it, but the Cultists are shooting at you from afar.

How To Get Through Scenario 4
Create space between you and the Grave Monster. While backing off, keeping shooting it with Shock Blasts. Make sure you interchange Shock Blasts with venting to prevent overheating. Run as far as you can if you have to, as long as the Grave Monster and Cultists don’t get to team up and attack you at the same time. Unfortunately, Ray won’t follow you but don’t worry about it, you can always come back for him.

The Grave Monster would keep following, but because you’d be out of the Cultists’ range, only one ghost would be pestering you. To take care of the Grave Monster, strafe around the beast while shooting it with Shock Blasts. The Grave Monster will go down in no time.

Now, edge your way towards the Cultists. When one gets in range, blast it with your Meson Collider or Boson Darts. When the target is weak, wrangle it, slam it, then trap it. Take on one Cultist at a time until you reach the fallen Ray and revive him. Rinse and repeat until all the cultists are captured.

scenario 5 stone angel Top Five Tough Spots in Ghostbusters: The Video Game and How to Get Through Them

The Stone Angel: Fear it.

Scenario 5
Ray and the Rookie found the rest of the Ghostbusters, but they’re stuck behind an impenetrable gate. The big headache here is when Stone Angels suddenly rush in from above, raining fire arrows on you and your companions. You manage to take down a few Stone Angels by slamming them on the ground, but you don’t survive long enough.

How To Get Through Scenario 5
Go to the gate and lean behind it with your back to the other Ghostbusters stuck behind the obstacle. When the Stone Angels arrive, keep dodging side to side using the lateral dodge move. As the Stone Angels attempt to shoot you, their arrows would hit the “impenetrable” gate and eventually destroy it in half a minute or so.

When the gate is destroyed, the rest of the Ghostbusters come through the gate and the Stone Angels encounter ends.

Granted, there are a few more challenging parts in Ghostbusters: The Video Game, but so far, these are the toughest the game has to offer. If you have any questions on how to get through a particular section, don’t hesitate to ask.

my boson darts are not working!! please help!! I am using XP 64bit.

I am stuck at the part where Luke Hoss is hanging downwards from the roof.
I shot few boson darts but Stay Puff doesn’t fall off!! I tried many times, tried shooting on his shoulders, hands, biceps, face, tummy, his butt but still doesn’t work!! Egon keeps on shouting at me to use boson darts.I kept on falling off the building when he hit me. what should I do?
Are there anyone else who has this problem?

    Mike Reply:

You have to keep shooting using Boson Darts. Don’t forget to cool your pack once every two shots or so (depending on your pack’s upgrade).

So–shoot twice, then vent the pack. Then shoot twice, and vent again. Rinse and repeat.

AFAIK, there’s no specific spot to shoot, as long as you shoot Stay Puft. I usually smack him on the face. I hope that helps. :)
