Watch 10 minutes of Batman: Arkham Asylum
Great news: there’s a new 10-minute gameplay video for Batman: Arkham Asylum. It shows a good amount of action, particularly Batman’s familiar swinging and gliding. There are also a few stealth takedowns and plenty of fluid combat here that should please any fan looking for a decent Batman game since—forever.
Oh wait, there’s a catch: the video is in Polish.
What I really like about Batman: Arkham Asylum is that allows you to move around stealthily or cause a ruckus by beating everybody up at the same time. You have the freedom to choose and Batman looks formidable either way.
On the other hand, I’m still on the fence regarding Arkham Asylum’s AI, especially how it behaves around a sneaking Batman. For starters, have you seen how big Batman is? More importantly, Batman wasn’t exactly quiet when he was zipping around in the main hall. His grappling hook makes a bit of noise, and so does the little concrete bits that fall off the ledges. Call me anal, but aren’t the crooks supposed to hear that racket?
And what’s with the completely oblivious sniper?
The combat portions look pretty good, though. Batman has a good range of moves and counters that seem so natural, or maybe the player controlling him was just really good. I can’t imagine how the unlockable Joker character would perform, considering that he has a different set of moves and abilities.
Watch out for Batman: Arkham Asylum, it’s coming out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on August 25 in North America.
