Which console would you choose if price weren’t an issue?

xbox 360 vs ps3 Which console would you choose if price werent an issue?

You’ve weighed in on the discussions regarding the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 price debate. There were many great points raised on either side, but what if cost was removed from the equation? If price weren’t an issue, which console would you choose?

Would you go for the shooter-heavy Xbox 360, with its many exclusives and superior Xbox Live? Or would you choose the Cell-powered PS3, which comes with a Blu-ray disk and other fancy features?

Here’s my 2 cents
Cost is a huge part of the reason why I decided to get the PS3 so deciding between the two without considering the price tag is somewhat trickier for me. I’ve always wanted to have an Xbox 360 and play its exclusives (Halo 3 FTW!). I love my shooters too so the Xbox 360 library is something I’ve always wanted to experience.

However, I still think I’d choose the PS3 over the Xbox 360 because the PS3 is more reliable. While the newer Xbox 360s are said to have fewer cases of the Red Rings of Death, I’m still not too keen about them. See, the operative adjective is “fewer,” which means a smaller amount.

Granted, hardware failure is something that all gamers have to live with and even the PS3 has the equally nasty Yellow Light of Death. If you look at the reports, though, you’ll see that YLOD occurrences are incredibly small compared to the RRoD. I don’t have the exact numbers, but it’s certainly much lower than 33%.

What about you?
Which console would you choose if price weren’t an issue and why? You may love your PS3/Xbox 360, but would you choose the other one instead if price was never a problem? I’d love to hear what you think!

XBOX 360 FTW cost has no issue with this. It has to do with variety. XBOX 360 has to be the best system with variety, Halo 3, Left 4 Dead, Even has other games like Sonic and game shows like 1 v 100. Better yet you can’t play most of these games on other consoles. The red ring of death has affected me but all i had to do was call a free 1-800 number and they took care of it fro free and gave my a months free subscription to xbox live. Now XBOX live is the best online experience i’ve ever had. I have played the ps3 online but it was nothing like live. The players seem to just not want to be on there. Now if you were paying for your subscription you wouuld either try to know people or actually play. I witnessed a player on the PS3 who left it on to piss people off, with the XBOX people get banned for something like that. It seems more controlled and makes the gaming world enjoyable. Hands down the XBOX 360 is better than the PS3.

If I didn’t have a PS3 already, I would choose it in a heartbeat. Since I have a PS3, I’d choose the 360 just because of the 2 360 exclusives I find somewhat good : Gears of War and Halo.

PS3. The price is more of an investment. Out of the box, you get a bunch of features, including a FREE PlayStation Network with big exclusive, quality games like Warhawk, SOCOM, and Ratchet & Clank as well as a free social networking platform like Home.

However, if price weren’t an issue, I wouldn’t choose just one =D

If you play online regularly, the 360 will cost more anyway (+$50/ year) within a few years and with far fewer standard hardware features. So I’d get the PS3 either way. The PS3 has a more impressive and varied lineup of games. I always recommend a PS3 & PC combination for serious gamers.

There is really only one choice, with free online games - “no annual subscription”, free wi-fi and Blu-Ray and with great exclusive titile like Metalgear solid 4, Killzone, God Of War III, Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian. The PS3 even can record live T.V if you purcahse the play tv add-on.

it just offers so much more than halo which is highly overplayed right now. the exclusives coming out are better. the hardware quality is a million times better than the 360. and it has all that extra stuff like free online/blu ray player/ internet brower/ linux OS computer (if u want to install it) and a whole set of other things. gears and halo doesnt justify the purchase of a 360 to me. those will come out on pc anyways :-)

Stop one second. “Fewer” means “smaller ammount?” OMFG NO WAY!!!!!!

Sarcasm aside, I’ve never owned a PS3, and have only held its controller twice in my life. Since 2005 when I got my 360, it has died once. But it wasnt anything to totally freak out over. I have a life. I go to work, I go play basketball with friends, I can at any time get on my computer. I can live without my xbox for 2 weeks while Microsoft repairs it for me for free. The reason I didnt get a PS3 in the first place when both consoles came out, was the fact I didnt want to spend $600 against $400. Fuck wireless internet. The only time you ever ever ever use that is on a laptop or your phone. If there was no price difference, I would have totally got the PS3 back then. I was a huge fan of the PS2 and played it alot. I basically only owned an Xbox for Halo 1&2. 4 years later, Im very happy i decided to go with the 360. The library of games is so grand. Halo 3, Gears, Mass Effect, the list continuously grows. Not to mention Xbox Live is amazing and stomps two shits all over Playstation Network. I will, however, buy a PS3 when the pricetage drops. Only for God of War 3.

PS3, easily. I could just never get into the Xbox experience - none of the exclusives ever really grabbed me.

I love the major Sony franchises like R&C, Sly and God of War, but more than that, Sony seems to support “the weird shit”. Stuff like Flower and the Siren series - fantastic games. Plus Valkyria Chronicles is, for some reason, sticking to Sony platforms. That’s kinda’ weird.

Aside from BioShock (yay for ports), the only MS exclusive I feel a real pinch at not having access to is Shadow Complex - now that looks awesome.

Regardless of price, I’d choose the 360. Just because there are more exclusives that I like compared to the PS3. Another benefit is that a lot of multi-platform games seem to look better on the 360 than the PS3. Which is a freaking travisty. NOT of the fault of Sony by the way. Just the result of lazy developers and pushy publishers that are in it for the all mighty dollar. On topic: It just comes down to exclusives for me when it comes to choosing a system.

Pssssss! PS3 is the cheapest gaming system out. For the Xbox 360 you have to buy a yearly subscription and a adapter to get the enter net. If you call the 360 cheaper you will be paying more for it when your finished using it. Think about it, in six years you will be paying an extra $300 on Xbox live. That will bring the cost for the Xbox about $600, but the PS3 would still cost you $399. So which one is cheaper?

Xbox 360. The amount of online content, games releases sticking to their announced deadlines (no 1 year delays), console features (cross game chat), and exclusives. Blu-ray is more of a hassle and WAY to expensive considering there are many more cheaper methods of 1080p moveis, including Xbox Live. Quality of games may go to PS3, but I’m sure Xbox will improve now that it made up for the original Xbox deficit and has finally established itself.

I even for the actual price of the console a i think its ok, for all the thing included:

The PS3 is more reliable console, Blu-ray, Multimedia Center( Music, Movies, Fotos etc…), PSN is free and the online service works very well, the lag is not a problem in the majority of the games.

The exclusives are amezing and Sony prefer to develop games rather than get “exclusive DLC for multiplatform games”, i really prefer this than DLC which is no other than a piece of game…

See here’s the thing. There is always something that makes a person do this or that. But for me, if I put aside the red ring or yellow ring of death, put aside the price or blue-ray or not, put aside HDMI or online service, and put aside what all the “fanboys” say (by the way “fanboys” are people who like to look at the world as only half full so they focus only on what they know, not what else they might enjoy), put aside all the accessories and warranties, and put aside the graphic differences because a pretty game is just a picture unless it’s fun to play, you are left with only one thing that decides which console to buy. The games.

I had my 15 year old brother decide for me which way to go. He said that the Xbox (the original) had better looking games and better shooting game (like Halo), but had very few games in general. At the time I was considering which console to get it was about 2 years before the PS3 came out so by then the PS2 was prominant and had a substantially larger game library than the Xbox. I looked at the libraries and I went with the library that had more game I could play and felt bad about the game I would not play because they were Xbox only. I was happy enough.

Then the Xbox 360 came out and that changed everything. The games were just so much better however few there were. It was “next gen”, it was pretty, I had to have one. So I bought it, because the PS2 was growing tire for me. I played all the PS2 games I wanted and the 360 stuff was all new and pretty. I knew a PS3 was planned but when? I could not wait, so I didn’t and bought a 360. I was happy enough.

Then the PS3 came out. When that happened, it was not a decision for me if I should buy but when. The 360 was my new rig, but the Playstation brand was what captivated me. And I would still be able to play all my PS2 library and new PS3 titles as well. No brainer. My 360 was less willing to play old Xbox titles but that did not matter to me since it played Halo and Halo 2 and 360 titles and that was good enough. But no way was I NOT going to get a PS3. Forget it. I was getting a PS3 come hell or high water.

Now I have both, and frankly that is the right way to do it, if you can, because you can enjoy all the games that come out, not just the ones your gear can play. I am now happier. My only issue now is that I have to decide for which console to buy a game for since they are close enough in graphics not to matter much there. The decision there is what are my friends playing? I get what my friends play so I can play with them.

But if I play alone and not online, generally the PS3 is the better console….for me. I just like it better. It’s like asking which is better Honda or Toyota? Well they are both good but I just happen to prefer Toyota, for the same reason i like the color blue better than red. That said, if I could have ONLY ONE CONSOLE, I would chose the Playstation 3 over the Xbox 360 because the games I like to play seem to happen on that console more than on the 360. It’s not about the price, it’s about the gameplay and experience.

As it stands RIGHT THIS MOMMENT, this difference between the consoles (game library) for me is nearly zero now that RPGs and story titles are coming out on the 360, not just shooters, so my lean now is actually for the 360 since it has a more thorough and satisfying experience with Xbox Live. The equivalent on PS3 seems so disconnected and lonely in comparison.

Look at it this way, be glad for both consoles. The competition has made both systems desireable by everyone and more they compete for our dollars the better the consoles and the games we play on them become.

To be clear, chosing between the two is like having to chose between a truck and a sedan–they are different and are both desireable depending on need or want. So why not have both if you can? Fanboys simply lack the maturity to know how to have and enjoy both. And they somehow feel allegiance to one like a club which is likely their only what of identifying themselves which sympathizes with their insecurity. When they grow up they will realize the power of maturity and the enjoyment it brings to win and win again. Instead they limit themselves to what they can handle so they are not overwhelmed by the options–again they don’t have the maturity to deal with it yet.

Ever since owning a 360, sold my PS3 by the way, have been putting in more hours during the day on the 360. Money was not an issue for me either. More so, it was about the quality and quantity between the two. One, I’ve enjoyed PS1, PS2, so a PS3 only seemed natural, between as with the previous consoles, I researched and just felt that the PS3 still had better bang for the buck, even though as an early adopter I was going to have to wait for some things to kick in. Here we are and I think that when you put everything that the PS3 has into the XBOX 360, the PS3 is still the cheaper console with the inclusion of Blu-ray movies usage, wi-fi, backwards compatibility, stability, future games taking advantage of the Blu-ray capabilities, built in hard drive (interchangeable too). PS3 just had and still has the better potential. The Wii, although a decent console and targeted to a different market, is just not in the same category as the PS3. The shift to HD in society will eventully void out the Wii as a serious contender.

I think I would still choose PS3, yes it does not have a huge libary of shooters but it has a many # of differnt tittles so its not always the same big harry man shooter game that you play. Plus by my opinion PS3 games have more detale & time put into them, & besides that PS3 has stolen almost all of the 360 games. & like you said PS3 almost never brakes, & PSN is free & the only reason everyone keeps saying xbox live is better is because they have more DLC, & by the way most of those are timed exsclusives, not to mention all the other great exstra stuff PS3 does like Blueray & Vidzone. If Sony would lower the price give us voice msg, put PS2 games on the PSN & actually advertises what there system did then they would be on top. So seriously PS3 does more & if you do add in the price it should be preaty ovious but people dont relize the actual cost of each system & what they do.

Eve with the PS3 being a better system(the specs say it is) It does not the the games to prove it. They are ot games out that will makes me want a PS3. No matter the cost. I’ve got a ps3 because it’s the best. it uses far more advanced techniques then the 360. And it has several media playback features that the 360 can’t top. And using DVD’s instead of bluray? In this generation of games? C’mon XD. That’s why the ps3 is better, always.

Well since fixing the rrod from xbox 360 involves 4 screws 8 rings and some liquedsilver I would still chooce the 360. Even if it breaks down I can fix it myself. Can’t say that about ps3

“XBOX 360 has to be the best system with variety, ”

In 2006…since ps3 has the same games + better exclusives + way larger variety.

open your eyes fanboyz (dan, ziggernaut, essentia, emil, etc etc), and forget old stupids songs “live is better”, “more exclusives” (again..only in 2006 : since, ps3 is superior : just check on gameranking lists…)..

you can enjoy playing your xbox, it can be enough for you, but you are not forced to downplay quality of ps3 and ps3 softs to feel better.

Technically, the two consoles cost about about the same. I have a PS3 and a 360. Out of the box, the PS3 was ready to connect online with its built in WiFi and I was downloading demos and PWNing people online within minutes, for free. With the 360, I had to fork over an additional $100 bucks for the WiFi adapter (lame) then pay for XBL (double lame). Also, the PS3 comes with a Blu Ray disk player (winner of the Hi Def disk war) which isnt even available for the 360.
With all this said, if the two were equal in price, I would choose the PS3 for their better controller, bluetooth capability, built in wifi and blu ray disk player.

I own both. I am on my 4th xbox 360 from RROD and I’m sick of seeing xbox coffins. From this you would think i would choose the ps3 but the truth is the ps3 just collects dust. All the multiplatform games look better on the xbox 360 so I end up getting those games on the xbox 360. I have killzone, warhawk, mgs4 all great games but not as good as the xbox exclusives. Having a Bluray player is sweet but i only have a couple bluray movies and i don’t watch movies at home to often.

For sure xbox 360 and I would pay sony $50 a year if they could fix the ps3 online experience because right now it feels gimped.

Shit like this pops up on the internet all the time. Seeing as how there are more Xbots these days than PS3 fanboys its kind of obvious which console is going to win. I doubt that more than like 10 percent of the people voting on this site will actually think about which console is better and automatically vote for whichever console they see as the best even if it is clear to them that the other is better.

hey guys, i am a crazy gamer,i have both consoles. My ps3 is a blue ray player thats all. I never touch that thing, there is some great games on it but loading time sucks and the controller is not as user friendly. xbox 360 is so much better in so many ways, so many games, oh they also have gears and that should say it all. my blue ray kicks but though. XBOX 360 RULES

PS3 no doubt! I’ve played on XBL and nothing jumps out. I’m not saying PSN jumps, but there is nothing about XBL that made me say “I just HAVE to pay to play with my friends, even tho it’s free everywhere else!”. And don’t give me that “but all your real-life friends are on the 360″ because if that were the case, I’d hang out with them in real life. I don’t need to pay to have fun with them.

You get what you pay for on PS3. 360 makes you keep paying for it…

Money can never be a problem with Xbox360.. it’s almost free ffs. The only reason to get a 360 will always be the “free games”. If you know what i’m talking ’bout ;)
